Anna Maria College invites everyone to attend the 2026 LaVigne Lecture Series event on April 15th at 5:00 pm in Foundress Hall. The LaVigne Lecture Series: A Tradition of Insightful Storytelling

The LaVigne Lecture Series was established through the generosity of Edith Mooney LaVigne, whose dedication to Anna Maria College helped create a platform for meaningful dialogue and learning. Each year, the series invites an author whose work reflects themes that resonate with the college’s values and academic focus. This tradition enriches the campus community by offering fresh perspectives and fostering conversations that extend beyond the classroom.

This year’s speaker, Wayne Miller, brings a gripping and detailed account of one of the most significant arson cases in U.S. history. His book, Burn Boston Burn, explores the series of crimes that shook Boston and the complex investigation that followed. Attendees will gain insight into the challenges faced by investigators and the impact of these events on the city and its residents.

Celebrating 30 Years of Fire Science at Anna Maria College

The 2026 LaVigne Lecture also marks a milestone for Anna Maria College’s Fire Science program. For three decades, this program has trained students to serve their communities with knowledge, skill, and dedication. The anniversary celebration will recognize the program’s achievements and the important roles its alumni have played in fire safety and emergency response.

Some alumni have risen to leadership positions, including fire chiefs who started their careers at AMC. Their stories illustrate how the program has shaped professionals who protect and serve communities. The event offers a chance to honor these individuals and reflect on the program’s evolution and future.

How Alumni Can Participate

Alumni of the Fire Science program are encouraged to share their experiences and memories by filling out an online form or calling 508-849-3218. This opportunity allows former students to contribute to the celebration by reflecting on how the program influenced their careers and lives. Their stories will help highlight the program’s lasting impact and inspire current and future students.

What to Expect at the Event

The lecture will begin promptly at 5:00 pm in Foundress Hall. Wayne Miller will present his work, followed by a question-and-answer session where attendees can engage directly with the author. After the presentation, there will be a book signing and a reception with hors d’oeuvres, providing a relaxed setting for conversation and networking.

This event is open to all, including students, faculty, alumni, and community members. It offers a unique chance to learn about a fascinating true crime story while celebrating the achievements of AMC’s Fire Science program.
